Mechanical Engineer

Avantium is at the forefront of innovative engineering solutions towards CO2 conversion, dedicated to advancing technology and sustainability. We are currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to scale up and EU projects, focusing on cell manufacturing, container/skid upgrades, and remote operations.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for cell and cell stack manufacturing and handling, container and test skid upgrades, and ensuring the smooth operation of our units in various locations. This role requires a balance of desk work and hands-on activities, with a strong emphasis on safety and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrochemical cell manufacturing and stack engineering
- Modify and upgrade current containers and test skids
- Upgrade hardware and cell handling systems (in and outside of containers)
- Coordinate hardware updates with engineering firms
- Create, manufacture, and test large scale stacked cell designs
- Manage FAT & Transport logistics
- Commission units and train operators
- Identify suppliers for large-scale production
Soft Skills:
- Effective communication in English (reading and writing) – Dutch an add value
- Open to giving and receiving compliments and appreciation
- Balance desk work with hands-on activities
Hard Skills:
- Safety-first mentality
- Proficient mechanical 2D/3D design of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and/or Inventor
- Skilled in creating manufacturing drawings
- Material manufacturing/processing experience (metals and plastics)
- Familiar with designing parts and equipment for (electro)chemical use, including:
- Pressurized (PD)
- Heated (NEN-3140)
- Corrosion resistant
- (Electronically) insulated
- Familiar with flow/simulation
- Established network within the manufacturing industry for consultation
What do you bring?
This role is perfect for you if you have the following knowledge and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with +5 yrs experience or related field or +10yrs experience in electrochemical cell design/stack engineering.
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering roles, particularly in cell manufacturing and container upgrades
