Technologist Monomer Development
Avantium is one of the pioneers in the area of developing sustainable technologies for a fossil-free future. We are looking for a Technologist in the Technology and Innovation department, to work in the monomer development team. The team focuses on developing and improving processes to produce the biobased monomer 2,5-Furan Dicarboxylic Acid (FDCA-YXY technology). The team is part of the Renewable Polymers Business Unit, which is the backbone to commercialize and license the developed YXY technology.
What will you do?
The Technologist is a key player in the execution of projects regarding R&D and upscaling. You are responsible for planning and execution of experiments to reliably answer research questions with data.
Together with Project leader and/ or Scientists you are closely involved in continuously improving the existing processes and developing the new processes for the YXY technology. This process involves extensive experiments internally and if needed externally using the existing equipment set ups and support the project leader and the team to decide on the next activities. Furthermore, refurbishing the existing equipment to carry out extended/new trials, and/or installing the new equipment in the lab for new processes and methods.
The work is very much focused on hands-on lab work and problem solving, including equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
You will be also performing general laboratory supporting tasks and will be responsible of adhering to Avantium safety regulations and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Design experiments together with Project leader /Scientists.
- Set up, refurbish/modify the existing equipment and perform experiments in the internal and external laboratories.
- Present & discuss results with Project leader / Scientists.
- Provide input for periodic reports and contribute to knowledge management.
- Development and execution of new experimental procedures under safety regulations including perform safety assessments.
- Active involvement in construction, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, as well as providing equipment training to colleagues
- Proactive communication with team colleagues on planning, timelines and reporting.
What do you bring?
As a Technologist you have excellent laboratory skills and you enjoy working in the lab. You have good analytical skills, you are result-oriented and take initiative.
You also have:
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related area
- Experience and strong affinity with organic chemistry and laboratory work to perform.
- Ability to communicate information clearly in spoken and written English
- Team player with good interpersonal skills that is comfortable with receiving feedback
- Practical, flexible mindset, result-oriented mentality with initiative and a desire to be challenged
- Strong R&D, and hands on mindset and preferably 1-3 years of experience in an industrial setting .
