Transforming CO₂ into Tomorrow’s Materials

Volta Technology

Converting CO₂ into High-Value Chemicals and Materials

Volta Technology harnesses the power of CO₂ through electrochemistry. Avantium’s electrocatalytic platform transforms this gas into a new carbon source for the chemical industry, enabling cleaner processes and reducing industrial emissions. By converting captured carbon dioxide that would otherwise contribute to global warming and converting it into valuable products, Volta Technology supports a circular, carbon-smart future.

Uniting for CCU-Breakthroughs

Avantium has established itself as a leader in the field of CO2-based chemicals and polymers. Following the acquisition of Liquid Light in 2016, we have further developed our technology platform through internal R&D efforts and multiple successful collaboration projects and demonstration campaigns. These initiatives have showcased the effectiveness of our technology, and laid a robust foundation for scaling up and commercializing our solutions. Our commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in our industrial partnerships and the continuous support we receive from the EU’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, driving further advancements and deployment of our groundbreaking technologies.

Imagine a world where CO₂ isn’t a threat but a valuable resource.

PLGA: The Green Alternative to Fossil-Based Plastics

Revolutionizing Carbon Utilization

Avantium’s innovative process converts CO₂ into oxalic acid, and then into glycolic acid. Glycolic acid, combined with lactic acid, can be used to produce PLGA polyester in existing manufacturing assets. PLGA is a biodegradable polyester with excellent barrier and mechanical properties, making it an excellent sustainable alternative for conventional fossil-based polymers.

Avantium offers a platform for converting CO₂ into formic acid for cleaning products or fermentation, and CO for specialty uses.
